Please check out the updated tutorial in CVS at
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/boost/boost/libs/python/doc/index.html
I think your problems will disappear.

Basically, the problem is no_init; it doesn't really work for abstract
bases and needs to be tuned.
