Imagine living and working in Santa Cruz County, located on the California coast at \
the north end of Monterey Bay, 65 miles south of San Francisco and 35 miles from \
Silicon Valley. The natural beauty, temperate climate, and the vast and varied \
cultural resources are a delight in every season.

The Santa Cruz Public Libraries are organized to serve all the people of Santa Cruz \
County except residents of the City of Watsonville, which maintains an independent \
library. Residents of the two jurisdictions can and do use either library system.

The Santa Cruz Public Libraries operate under a Joint Powers Agreement among the \
County of Santa Cruz and the Cities of Capitola, Santa Cruz, and Scotts Valley. \
Members of the Joint Powers Board are the County Administrative Officer from the \
County of Santa Cruz, the City Manager from the City of Capitola, the City Manager \
from the City of Santa Cruz, and the City Manager from the City of Scotts Valley.

The Library Joint Powers Authority Board is seeking a director who will:

  * Navigate the post-pandemic environment and increase public awareness of \
                services the library provides
  * Provide executive leadership for a Mixed Use Downtown Library and the \
                construction projects that are underway
  * Partner with the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries to raise funds for \
library renovation and capital improvement projects
  * Provide vision and leadership for the development of a strategic plan that is \
                responsive to community needs
  * Champion a culture of intellectual freedom, reading, lifelong learning, and \
                21st century literacies
  * Foster an organizational culture that embodies and values equity, diversity, \
and inclusion, reflective of the communities the library serves
  * Partner with community organizations, school districts, local businesses etc. \
to enhance and expand service to shared audiences
  * Create and implement a robust staff development plan to ensure all staff have \
access to mentoring and coaching for the skills needed not only to complete their \
assigned tasks but to enable them to be eligible for promotion and further prepare \
them to assume leadership positions
