Youth Specialist II

Available Positions at Neighborhood Branch Locations:

Grand Glaize Branch & Samuel Sachs Branch

St. Louis County Library is a 20 branch system, serving over 860,000
patrons and circulating 14 million items a year in a growing metropolitan
area. SLCL is in the midst of a multi-year capital improvement project to
upgrade existing structures and open new facilities, as well as enhance
library programs and service. We are looking for a dynamic Youth Specialist
who can think outside the box to enhance and increase services to patrons
in an diverse, urban environment. The successful candidate will work well
in a fast-paced environment and provide a wide range of programming options

Starting Salary: $32,386.00 (salary commensurate with experience)

Job Purpose:

Provide quality services for children and teens to promote reading and
learning in support of the Library's mission.

Essential Job Functions:

Plans, prepares, schedules, and presents programs for youth ages 0-17 in
order to support the Library's mission to offer quality programs for
children and teens which promote reading and learning.

Supports the manager in being a liaison to childcare providers,
homeschoolers, schools, and educators to encourage their new and continued
use of Library services.

Compiles accurate statistics and writes evaluative reports for the branch
regarding programming and resources.

Provides Readers' Advisory and Reference service for youth ages 0-17 and
their caregivers to assist them in making the best use of Library
resources.

Performs duties as delegated by the Manager to provide support to branch
staff.

Job Qualifications:

•Bachelor's Degree

•Two years experience planning and implementing youth programs

•Must possess a commitment to a high level of public service to Library
customers and staff

•Must possess excellent communication and organization skills

•Working knowledge of literature for youth ages 0-17
