Takes Over Libraries" <BR><BR> <DIV>It is my understanding that in many cases (if we \
can call 15 library systems many), the current staff is layed off and then many of \
them rehired under the terms of the private company. This takes them off of an \
previous employment contracts and union contracts that they may have been on. \
The retirement is taken off of the public retirement program and put on 401k's. \
Your government retirement may use 401k or 457b now but if this is run through a \
government entity, such as a state run PERS program. They will no longer be a part of \
this program, though I am sure they don't lose what is already in the program. \
And, since people are rehired for the private company their salaries and hours may be \
changed if they continue on with the library. There are city, county, etc. \
governments that have negotiated to keep some benefits the same as they were with a \
union contract but I don't know if that applies to new employees or just rehired \
employees. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I have not worked with LSSI and I do not work, and never have worked, in a \
library with a uniion but this is my understanding of how it works. \
