SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:  A Master of Library Science degree from an
accredited college or university -AND- One year's experience equivalent
to Los Angeles County's class of Librarian IV* in charge of a large
community library or coordinating specialized library programs within a
region -or- Two years experience equivalent to Los Angeles County's
class of Librarian III** in charge of a medium-sized community library
or supervising staff performing specialized library work.

* Positions allocable to this class work under the general supervision
of higher-level librarians and either 1) have immediate charge of a
large community library including the supervision of lower-level
professional, paraprofessional and clerical staff, or 2) have
responsibility for developing, coordinating, and supervising regional
library services such as youth services, adult services, and collection
development, or the major department-wide Community Access Library Line
Program (CALL). 

**  Positions allocable to this class either 1) have immediate charge
of a medium-sized community library including the supervision of
lower-level professional, paraprofessional and clerical staff; 2)
supervise professional or paraprofessional staff providing
department-wide technical support functions; 3) coordinate a special
service program including the supervision of professional or
paraprofessional staff; or 4) evaluate materials to be added to the
department's collection. 

REQUIREMENT INFORMATION: To qualify, applicants must submit a copy of
their Master of Library Science (MLS) degree or transcripts of school
records confirming successful completion of their MLS degree at the time
of filing.

Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of
regional, national or international accrediting agencies which are
accepted by the Department of Human Resources.  Publications such as
American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of
Universities are acceptable references.  Also, acceptable, if
appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be
equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an
academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National
Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
