NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LATINO ARTS & CULTURE
NALAC was founded in 1989 in response to a need for a
service organization for Latino arts and cultural organizations
and artists. At that time mainstream arts service
organizations did not specifically provide Latino arts and
cultural organizations with services or advocate on their
behalf. In addition, no entity convened the constituents in the
Latino arts field, advocated for their inclusion in government
and private support for the arts, or provided Latino
organizations with technical assistance in program and
organizational development. For this reason, a group of
Latino artists, activists and administrators created a service
organization to meet the needs in Latino communities across
the country.

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: HANDBOOK FOR POLICY
At a time when choice and testing dominate the
education agenda, there is an increased need to apply some
common sense and consider the critical role that community
and family play in educating our children. In response to this
need, The Coalition for Community Schools has released a
primer to help guide state policymakers -- governors, state
legislators, chief state school officers, and leaders of other
state agencies-- through the vision of community schools. It
describes specific actions that leaders can take to "grow"
community schools in their states.
