Subject: community outreach services

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has worked with community
outreach services for adults.  This would include shut-ins, nursing homes,
jails, etc.  What are some of the necessary things to be done when
starting such a program?  What are some of the pitfalls?  If you had a
program and cancelled it, why?  What kinds of services were offered?  What
were your policies on lost/overdue materials?   Do you use volunteers?  
Any information on the subject will be welcomed.
