Subject: Workshops Prior to ALA Midwinter
How-to Know-How Workshops
The University of North Texas, in cooperation with the Texas State Library
and Our Lady of the Lake University, will sponsor a day of workshops on
Friday, January 19, 1996, prior to the American Library Association
Midwinter Conference in San Antonio. "How-to Know-How:
Practical Workshops for the Librarian" will offer insightful down-to-
earth tips on a variety of subjects from experienced librarians who
have written books on their topic. Topics include:
Book Repair;
Finding and Using Government Documents;
Teaching Library Skills in Grades K through 6;
Teaching Library Skills in Middle and High School; I
-Search Approach to Research;
Creating Newsletters, Brochures, and Pamphlets;
Personalize Your Message with Your Own Cartoon Figures; and
Navigating the Internet.
Keynote speakers will be Patricia Schuman, Past President of the
American Library Association, who will speak on "Managing the Dream:
Leadership and Where the Field is Going" and Charles Harmon, former director
of the ALA headquarters library, who will discuss "Intellectual Freedom
in the Library and on the Information Super Highway."
Workshop registration is $55.00 if postmarked prior to January 5, 1996
and $65.00 after January 5, 1996. Registration includes lunch. The
workshops will be held at the Educational Service Center, Region 20,
1314 Hines, San Antonio. Registration is permitted at the door, space
