I just wanted to let the list know, for documentation's sake, that
eventually I have successfully... hidden the whole issue by changing
the format of that backup mailbox from mbox to maildir, ie added a
trailing slash to its name.

Now everything seems fine, that is the backed up messages remain
readable and whole. It does seem some weird compiling bug in how
procmail is compiled for Centos, I'll probably report it.
