I'm afraid I don't understand your comment.  I merely showed the
OP how to do what he said already he wanted to do.

Oh, I think I see: you think I said he doesn't *need* the @
sign.  That's not what I said at all.  I said he doesn't need
to *quote* it, as in "\@", which is what he had.
