Well, thanks to David Tamkin we have the correct code for storing e-mail
backups to a single file.  

TO_KEEP= 50
BACKUP= backup
ADD= top
:0cw:$BACKUP$LOCKEXT
* ADD ?? ^^top^^

| cat - $BACKUP

| formail -e${TO_KEEP}s > $BACKUP
}

           ^
	   added

also had accidentally added a T to LOCKEXT which was causing it to hang.
