Hi Strk,
Following what I guessed would be you next suggestion, I set the PGHOST and
PGPORT env. vars prior to running postgis_restore.pl. The script ran, no
problems. My data are in there. Thanks so much for your suggestions, I
probably would have been considering a career change right about now had it
not worked properly.

I mean with 'psql template1' and no other switches.
Next thing to check is:
	createdb newdb
	createlang plpgsql newdb
	psql -f lwpostgis newdb

do the above works ?
