sounds like you are using dovecot
http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve

in my opinion it is not the job of the MTA to send replies
normally this should be done via the LDA

if you are using dovecot sieve is available
if you are using dbmail as example sieve or native replies (via sql-table)
are available, with sieve you have a standarized protocol on a own network
port where users can connect, for dbmail-native it would be easy to write
a small webinterface with auth against the user-table (we are using dbmail
with our own backends)
