SASL will always expect its plugins and configuration in /usr/lib/sasl/
(even if you ./configure --prefix=/opt/my/grandmothers/pea/soup/is/best
-- there are ways to tell it to look elsewhere, but they are not
commonly used). Try moving this file to /usr/lib/sasl and make sure your
smtpd does not run chrooted (you can try to set up the chroot later if
you have a working base that you can build on, if everything you need to
do is figure what needs to be in the chroot).
