I have been working on setting up a pptp server at the office where I =
work. The office currently has two Windows 2000 servers that are the PDC =
and BDC. I managed to get everything running at my house using a Linux =
box as both pptpd and WINS server, but in the office I have everything =
working except SMB name resolution. The tcpdump shows the following:

15:32:40.574164 IP 192.168.1.202.netbios-ns > 192.168.1.199.netbios-ns: =
NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; UNICAST
15:32:40.575033 IP 192.168.1.199.netbios-ns > 192.168.1.202.netbios-ns: =
NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; NEGATIVE; RESPONSE; UNICAST

I don't know exactly what the NEGATIVE is in response to, but I'm =
betting that's my problem. I have set up winbind and Kerberos (Fedora =
Core 3), and successfully logged into the domain. Can someone tell me =
what this NEGATIVE response means? I can access the shares by IP, but =
not name. All the packets seem to be getting where they need to go so it =
makes me think its some type of authentication problem. If someone could =
give me an idea about where I should start looking I'd really appreciate =
it.
