Yes, I understand. I'm thinking maybe it's a libutil or libc problem.
The strace proves it. There's no error reporting or status return from
logwtmp, so if there's a failure our plugin will never know.
Not much more we can do from a PPTP or plugin perspective, unless we
lift the hood on the called function and understand why it is failing.
Perhaps hiding the utmp file and giving the system a new one to play
with may remove a defect from the file that is preventing new record
insertion.
