Of course it should to be.  Are you missing something?  Well, you and
all of us are missing the improvement to pkgsrc to patch npm to
remediate this that Someone(tm) has not yet done.  I suspect this is
much like the rust crate support where you add them to a mk and they end
up in distfile instead.

By your expression of surprise, you are also perhaps missing that the
kids these days think it's ok for build tools to use the internet,
because they've never used non-connected computers :-)
