Every night he put what hehad earned into the little brass pig Nan had =
given him forChristmas.
Finally Jems rabbit, Bun, which he had bought from Joe Russell fora =
quarter, sickened and died.
Still less did sheapprove of two toads Walter brought in and put in the =
cellar.
Occasionally I do write a little story, admitted Anne.
So he put the two halves of the pig and the money in one of JemsSunday =
boots in the closet.
Perhaps sometime he WOULD have another dog, afterall. I just wanted =
topraise Anthony a little more . He walked blindly up the frozen road =
home.
Anne read it to her with a secret bit of pride; butMrs.
The great trees that were so mysterious atnight held out their arms =
about Ingleside. Spring was trying out her paces that day .
Jem continued to sit there forsome time longer.
Finally Jems rabbit, Bun, which he had bought from Joe Russell fora =
quarter, sickened and died.
The moon was filling the hollows among the white, snowy dunes with magic.
Occasionally I do write a little story, admitted Anne.
Mummy, said Walter, the snack-dragons are coming up thick allaround the =
back porch.
Because there waslove and work and self-sacrifice in them .
Ill call round next week for the obitchery. He was always partial to my =
cooking, if I do say it. Still less did sheapprove of two toads Walter =
brought in and put in the cellar.
He walked blindly up the frozen road home. He never complained much and =
always said he wasbetter.
He just wanted to see if itwould open, so when Jem was out of the room =
he twisted the tail. Walter fell asleeppromptly, but Jem squirmed about. =
She had not yetquite recovered from sprightly.
He made tops out of old reels for the boys in schoolfor two cents =
apiece.
He would be adiver and wander through radiant crystal halls under the =
sea. Walter fell asleeppromptly, but Jem squirmed about. I dont suppose =
you could work it into the obitchery, could you?
It never occurred to Jem to think for a moment thatshe need not be told.
It never occurred to Jem to think for a moment thatshe need not be told. =
Walter found it inthe dictionary last week .
I always think it must be some chore to write anobichery when you DONT =
know where the departed is. Youd almost think they were real, said Leona =
Reese. It sweetens the stomach if youre everbothered with gas. Anne had =
kissed and bandagedand soothed; but this was different . Anne almost =
grudged the fried parsnips when the Daily Enterprisecame out the next =
week.
They passed on then, quite unwitting of what they had done to thesmall =
boy sitting on the nail-keg.
