Thanks. I CC'd myself there.

vital, functionality.
What is "vital" is pretty subjective. In essense, the only "vital"
functionality is an IM connection and a command line. I doubt that anybody
would use Pidgin though.
But for an IM to be useful and fun for regular users, it should be running
every time they use their computer. The easiest way for this is for Pidgin
to auto-load on startup. Therefore, it should be ON by default, and it
should easy to de- and re-activate (i.e. a Preference).
> "Start Pidgin with Windows" doesn't need to be a preference in the
preferences dialog--it's a waste of space and the functionality is
avalable through numerous other means (logon scripts, Startup folder on
the Start menu, utilities that manage autostart applications, etc.).
That either shows a profound ignorance or indifference to regular users,
or that Pidgin is only intended for the vast minority of advanced users.
Please let me know, because I have zero interest in using and contributing
to the latter.
