#7262: Crash with interface corruption

----------------------------------------+-----------------------------------
Since the transition to the 2.x line of Pidgin clients, I've noticed
relatively frequent crashes on my Vista-based machine; I run Pidgin 24/7,
and the crashes typically occur 2-3 times per week. I do not have any
plugins enabled, and use only the AIM protocol. The crashes always seem
to occur mid-conversation; first, the client stops taking input, and then
the interface becomes corrupted. I've included a screenshot of the
 corruption.

This does not appear to be a problem isolated to Windows/Vista - one of my
friends, who is running 2.4.0 on Ubuntu Hardy Heron, reports identical
crashes (on a nightly basis) and visual corruption.
