I'm having the exact same issue. (I also upgraded the Cairo DLL to
v1.4.14) I think what causes this is my pidgin's absurd memory usage.
Pidgin is sometimes using about ~75MB of RAM and then I close and reopen
it so it doesn't crash. When it does crash, the application gets laggy,
and and its starts repainting the pidgin windows really slowly, then all
the text, the single characters turn into boxes then it crashes. My Pidgin
uses ~25MB ram on start, then if iniate a private conversation it jumps
10-15MB. I'll try disabling the OTR plugin and report back. I've disabled
other plugins but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.
