I'm glad you want to contribute. Lately the problem with Sourceforge,
is mainly me. I've been working on my own site since 0.6 came out and
I'm getting ready to launch the site early next week. It has some
auth/perm stuff in it and I've learned a lot from doing that so writing
the phpslash version shouldn't be too tough.

Nathan has okay'ed sending in new code to the CVS and after my site
launches I'm going to start focusing back on PHPSlash and 0.65. We need
to talk about user accounts though, because the jump from using
auth/perm to user accounts is a _very_ small one.

I found a bunch of hardcoded stuff sprinkled all over and it would be
nice to put all that stuff in one place. If you're looking for site
specific stuff then the best way would be to make your own
site_config.php3 file and include that from the main one. Upgrading
won't be too difficult then.

I'm not doing a lot of "hacking" on the comment system because it's a
big hairy mess and needs more attention on 0.65. Like did you know that
you have to query the DB for EVERY comment on the article page? So if
there's a 100 comments, then there's a 100 queries. It's a nightmare
that has stuck with us from the 0.5x days. Comments and Polls will get
overhauled in 0.65.

I didn't forget about PHPSlash even though it looks like I did for the
past few months. I'm telling all the people that I'm working with on my
first phpslash site that the deadline has to be kept because I can't
really focus on updates to phpslash until I launch my 0.6 version. And
I'm going to need auth/perm, user accounts, and comment moderation just
as much as anyone else.

later,
ajay
