Hi Joe,

  Indeed it was not a cut 'n' paste because my code was a lot larger than
this snip.

Really? Your loop is very interesting, since you're incrementing
$i but checking $1. Doesn't look like a cut 'n' paste "snip".
Anyway,

Then you'll have to call "new" twice, won't you? You've only
made one object.
