Changing to a Feature Request.
Ash, there is in fact no way to attach files to bug reports right now.
If you want to provide patches that are too long for the text field,
please upload them somewhere on the web.

Description:
------------
The instructions on contributing/submitting patches should suggest that
the submitter also adds their patch to a relevant bug report:
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/contributing.patches.php
Note: it's not obvious how to attach a patch to a bug-report; in fact,
while submitting this bug I can only see room for a 20-line patch (in
the 'Test script' section.) In other words, clear instructions are
desperately needed.
