Hello all,

Happy New Year Almost!

CVS phpDocumentor has added a very important feature with the release of
php 4.3.0: a tokenizer-based parser that is literally twice as fast as
the original parser. We will of course include the original parser for
those who don't or can't upgrade, but it is a wonderful thing to see
parse times cut in half :).

I've applied fixes from Jesus to the XML:DocBook converter peardoc2
templates, and will have a chance to test these sometime soon.

Most recent development has been on improving tutorials, fixing bugs,
and fixing up the PDF converter. The CHM converter has been switched
over to using a modified version of the HTMLframesConverter as its base,
and the output is much more pleasing to the eye, and ripe for
enhancement by any who wish to take a stab at that end.

The {@id} inline tag has been radically improved for tutorials, and now
makes categorizing tutorials/external documentation very easy

A new inline tag, {@toc} is available for tutorials to insert a table of
contents of the current tutorial.  It generates the toc from {@id}
inline tags and the <title> (or equivalent) of the section that is
marked by the id. Using the {@toc} tag allows the table of contents to
be inserted anywhere in the tutorial that is desired by the author. In
addition, the format of the toc is controlled by a template
tutorial_toc.tpl, so it can be customized down to the most minute level.

This feature is used by the phpDocumentor 1.2.0 Tutorial (working copy
at
http://joshuaeichorn.com/~CelloG/out/HTMLframesConverter/phpDocumentor/tutorial_phpDocumentor.howto.pkg.html),
and a few other of phpDocumentor's tutorials.

The main addition to phpDocumentor has been a whole slew of
documentation. This is the biggest addition needed for the 1.2.0
beta/rc release (will be rc if we feature-freeze). There is a great
deal more to do before documentation will be complete, but most of the
core docs have been finished.

That's all for now.

Take care,
Greg Beaver
