-available/

Over the past several weeks, we've been developing and validating updated m=
icrocode solutions<https://newsroom.intel.com/news/root-cause-of-reboot-iss=
ue-identified-updated-guidance-for-customers-and-partners/> to protect Inte=
l customers against the security exploits disclosed by Google Project Zero.=
This effort has included extensive testing by customers and industry partn=
ers to ensure the updated versions are ready for production. On behalf of a=
ll of Intel, I thank each and every one of our customers and partners for t=
heir hard work and partnership throughout this process.

More: Security Exploits and Intel Products<https://newsroom.intel.com/press=
-kits/security-exploits-intel-products/> (Press Kit) | Security Research Fi=
ndings<https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/=
facts-about-side-channel-analysis-and-intel-products.html> (Intel.com)

Based on these efforts, we have now released production microcode updates t=
o our OEM customers and partners for Kaby Lake- and Coffee Lake-based platf=
orms, plus additional Skylake-based platforms. This represents our 6th, 7th=
and 8th Generation Intel(r) Core(tm) product lines as well as our latest I=
ntel(r) Core(tm) X-series processor family. It also includes our recently a=
nnounced Intel(r) Xeon(r) Scalable and Intel(r) Xeon(r) D processors for da=
ta center systems.

The new microcode will be made available in most cases through OEM firmware=
updates. I continue to encourage people to always keep their systems up-to=
-date<https://newsroom.intel.com/news/security-issue-update-progress-contin=
ues-firmware-updates/>. There is also a comprehensive schedule and current =
status for planned microcode updates<https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/=
uploads/sites/11/2018/02/microcode-update-guidance.pdf> available online.

We are mindful of the fact that, in some cases, there are multiple mitigati=
on techniques available that may provide protection against these exploits.=
This includes "Retpoline," a Google-developed mitigation technique for Var=
iant 2. For those interested in more information on Retpoline and how it wo=
rks, we recently published a new white paper<https://software.intel.com/sit=
es/default/files/managed/1d/46/Retpoline-A-Branch-Target-Injection-Mitigati=
on.pdf>. Google has also posted information about Retpoline<https://support=
.google.com/faqs/answer/7625886>.

I look forward to sharing additional updates soon. Again, I extend my since=
re appreciation to all Intel customers and industry partners for their ongo=
ing support.

Navin Shenoy<https://newsroom.intel.com/biography/navin-shenoy/> is executi=
ve vice president and general manager of the Data Center Group at Intel Cor=
poration.
