Run services.msc and see if the SQL server service is running. If not, start it and \
try again. 

 

If it is running, does it work from a different client, and just not the server \
itself.

 

Try to see if it works with <serverIP>\<InstanceName> instead of the \
<serverName>\<InstanceName>.

I am unable to connect SQL Server 2008 R2 to a database. Here is s screenshot:

This problem seems to have begun right after installing Win 10 update to build \
14393.1198.

 

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
