I'm with you 110%, Ed. We used to use multiple consoles a few versions ago and that \
option went away with version 7, I think. I would love to have that option back. We \
are still using 7.2 currently, I'm waiting to get our SQL2008 cluster up and running \
before migrating to server 2008 VMs for NetChk 7.5.

I have used the eval of 7.5 and even though the interface is a little different it \
seems to be stable. I guess I'll get used to the weird new interface. If anyone has \
not used Shavlik before, the interface is fine.

Which version of Shavlik are you on? Version 7.5x has been pretty stable for us, \
using a SQL 2005 backend accordingly. Only problem is can't use multiple consoles to \
patch in the current version which is needed in my organization, so we had to utilize \
a utility to take control of the mapping of the console in the database when we want \
to use another console, but i s a PAIN in the arse atm, but should hopefully be \
fixed in V 7.6x.

Other than that, we have patched workstations/servers with little or no problems. ( \
Done virtual and physical)

Hey,

We have used Shavlik for many years. We use it on PCs, not servers.
Here is what I have to say about it.

When it is working it works flawlessly. I have groups setup with hundreds of systems \
in them and have no problems updating. I have run scans on the domain and they run \
fine, I don't update the entire domain though.

Here is our issue with the program. The last two major updates to the Shavlik program \
have broken so bad that we were unable to update for months. The latest version has \
been out for a very long time and they still can't figure out why we are having the \
problems, apparently we are the only place having these issues. We are just getting \
through a case of being broken and having no ability to update for months. We have \
worked with support with no success, we still have a support ticket open with them. \
We appear to be working now, only because I downloaded an update from their website. \
We have not heard anything from support for weeks and I assume that as far as they \
know we are still down.

Here is their latest response, dated 8/17/2010

I spoke again to XXXX and the CCT; they hope to have an update and will be in touch \
when they can regarding next steps.

This is my $.02 on Shavlik

Thanx

Greetings -- new to the list.

Anyone currently using Shavlik Patch Management solution for Desktops or servers ?
Knowing very well that this list is hosted by the vendor -- looking for

honest feedback regarding any of these products.

Also, anyone use Beyond Trust Power Broker for Desktops? It's a
(elevated) Privilege Manager that hooks into AD via GP's.

If anyone knows of any competing products as well -- please advise.

Many thanks, sja.
