Correct on pre-SMS 2003 SP1 installations you need a patch to be
applicable on at least one system in order to authorize it for
distribution in the DSUW. As of SP1 however the Sync Tool will
automatically parse the latest MSSECURE.XML for any new updates and
insert them into the database so that you can authorize them.

Are you sure it is applicable on at least one of your Win2kSP4 machines?
You could check, using the SMS Web Reporting Tool- use Software Reports-
Software Updates- Machines where a specific software update is
applicable.
I'm fairly new to SMS, but my understanding is that a patch will only
show up in DSUW when it is applicable on at least one machine...

Interesting Observation!

I see the same issue. If I create a new DSUW, "Windows 2000 SP4" and
"Windows 2000 Server SP4" are both missing from the list (Advanced
Server and Datacenter SP4 both appear correctly).

I deployed this patch successfully in April -- If I go back and look at
my "April Security Patches" Package (which was created with the DSUW),
it's in there.

I am using SMS and the Distributed Software Updates Wizard. I am having
an issue where the MS05-017 (892944) patch is listed in the "Software
Updates", but when creating a DSUW package, the option for Windows 2000
SP4 is not there. Only Windows 2000 SP3 and Windows 2000 Server SP4.
Is anyone else having this issue with MS05-017 ?

Thanks!

John
