Best to err on the safe side - here is the URL for the patch that will
install MSXML 2.6 SP3 (and MBSA will then scan it as SP3)

Subject: MSXML 2.6 sp2 warning on W2K

Hi Listers:

I know that some of the guys from the MBSA team monitor this and i'm
hoping they might weigh in (along with anyone else who has some
experience).

I have a number of W2K SP4 servers that when running an mbsa scan (with
the cli version) return the following warning:

MSXML 2.6 sp2 The latest service pack for this product is not
installed. Currently SP2 is installed. The latest service pack is SP3.
Warning

These machines do not have internet access, and when i go looking for
SP3, I come up pretty empty. About the closest i come is KB article
823490 which seems to indicate that SP3 is a hotfix specific to MSDE and
SQL and should only be applied if those symptoms are seen.

I understand that multiple MDAC versions can co-exist (can't remember
the MS name for that), and other versions 3.0 etc are fully patched
according to the MBSA.

So, is the bottom line that sp3 is really only needed in certain db
related situations and I can safely ignore that warning?
