Hopefully these are available as tarballs for packaging systems, too.
In pkgsrc, there is an owncloud package which currently installs the
main distribution, and once can update via pkgsrc pretty easily.  So it
would be good for pkgsrc, and presumably various linux distributions, to
be easily able to package the add-ons.  Generally the rule is on systems
with package managers that manual code insatllation (including by
built-in managmenet code on installed packages) is discouraged pretty
strongly.

(I have the bias that almost all copies of widely successful software
are run through OS-level package managers.)
