Virgin America, the San Francisco-based domestic airline. Simhambhatla
will share how he sold the use of Linux and open source to internal
colleagues and how he and his teams are maximizing it today.

* The Linux Kernel Roundtable. LinuxCon is one of the only places
attendees can hear directly from the Linux kernel developers. The
Linux Kernel Roundtable will include a hand-selected group of top
maintainers who include:
 - James Bottomley, Novell distinguished engineer and Linux Kernel
maintainer of the SCSI subsystem, the Linux Voyager port and the
53c700 driver;
- Jon Corbet, Linux kernel developer and editor, Linux Weekly News (LWN);
- Dave Jones, Fedora kernel maintainer;
- Chris Mason; director of Linux kernel engineering at Oracle and
creator of the btrfs file system; and
- Ted Ts’o, North America’s first kernel developer and fellow at Google.

* Eben Moglen, founding director of the Software Freedom Law Center
(SFLC). Moglen will discuss legal defense strategies for Linux and
open source software projects.

* Stormy Peters, executive director of the GNOME Foundation, will
explore how data is being stored and accessed in the cloud and what
that means for Linux and open source.

* Jeffrey S. Hammond, principal analyst, Forrester Research. Hammond
will present recent data that shows increased developer adoption of
open source platforms.

LinuxCon will also be host to a variety of mini-summits taking place
on August 9, 2010. Mini-summits currently include: KVM Forum; Linux
Storage & Filesystems Workshop; and the Linux Security, Education,
Bluetooth, Tracing and Power Management Summits.

==>Individual Members Spotlighted in New Linux.com Series<==

The Linux Foundation recently launched a special series on Linux.com
that profiles individual members and begins to collectively illustrate
the people who support Linux. These members help to support the work
of Linux creator Linus Torvalds and other important activities that
advance Linux, while getting a variety of other fun and valuable
benefits.

The series begins with Matthew Fernandez, a senior application
developer based in Sydney, Australia:

==>Linux Foundation Appoints Directors in China and Taiwan<==

China and Taiwan represent important opportunities for the Linux
community. For example, according to recent research, Linux server
adoption among small and midsize businesses (SMBs) is 25 percent
higher in the Asia-Pacific region and growing faster than the
worldwide average.

Linux veteran Cliff Miller, who co-founded TurboLinux among his many
other accomplishments, will lead efforts in China to facilitate
collaboration with exclusive events and training courses, among other
activities. More information on Cliff's role in China is available
here: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/node/6241.

Alex Lu, who is based in Taiwan and co-founder of DeviceVM, will
direct similar efforts for The Linux Foundation in Taiwan:

==>Linux.com Store T-shirt Contest Voting Underway<==

Two months ago we invited the community to create its own unique
designs to appear on Linux.com Store (http://store.linux.com/)
merchandise - - designs that would invoke feelings of geek pride,
freedom, fun, eccentricity and originality.

The 100+ designs we received proved that the best ideas come from the
community. We also know that the community knows best, so we’ve asked
you to vote for the very best design. There are six finalists and you
can vote as many times as you want, so check out the finalists and
share the link with friends and colleagues to get out the vote for
your favorite: http://www.linux.com/tshirt-design-contest/vote.

Voting ends midnight PT on June 6, 2010.

The community favorite will win a trip to Boston to attend LinuxCon as
well as the fame and fortune garnered by having their design displayed
on Linux.com Store merchandise worn around the globe.
