Here are some issues to address:

1) accessible install.  if ISVs have their own file formats and
installers, then how will accessible install ever be achieved?

2) cross-distro install.  if I have an LSB packaged application, then
how are prerequisite dependencies resolved?

3) if a very large customer evaluates and deploys Linux, then how can
they incrementally update (or patch) a binary software installation
without disrupting their certified setup?  this is very common issue for
Unix customers.
