Indeed, it looks like the problem is not driver specific.

I think you should ask in a mailing list that is not specific to one driver.

My suggestion (not to be taken too seriously) is to buy a Prism 2.5 card if
802.11b is sufficient and an Atheros based card if 802.11g is needed (an you
are OK with a binary module while the free version is being developed).  Stay
away from USB for now.  Use PCI if you can, or PCMCIA if you need mobility.
