Summary: no samples on 2.6.17.7 kernel running over vmware

Initial Comment:
root:Zeugma:~# uname -a
Linux Zeugma 2.6.17.7-1829 #1 SMP Fri Nov 30 12:53:16 PST 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
root:Zeugma:~# dmesg |grep opro
[14:48:17.724478] oprofile: using NMI interrupt.
root:Zeugma:~# opcontrol --setup --vmlinux=/vmlinux
root:Zeugma:~# opcontrol --start-daemon
Using default event: CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:100000:0:1:1
Using 2.6+ OProfile kernel interface.
Reading module info.
Using log file /var/lib/oprofile/oprofiled.log
Daemon started.
root:Zeugma:~# opcontrol --start
Profiler running.
root:Zeugma:~# ./zs_os_smoketest.sh > /dev/null 2>&1
root:Zeugma:~# opcontrol --dump
rm: cannot remove `/tmp/oprofile.171220': No such file or directory
root:Zeugma:~# ls -l /tmp
total 0

If you need any more information please let me know. The smoketest script does a \
whole bunch of network related operations. I have also used a standard povray \
benchmark to generae some profiling samples. Nothing works. Am I missing something?

You can close/delete the bug. It was originally posted by me and I have
resolved the issue.

Like the comment says, you can't use performance counters under VMWare.

VMware

OProfile can't work with VMware when using performance counter interface.
A workaround is to use RTC mode (2.4 kernel) or timer interrupt mode (2.6
kernel)
