I had earlier tried with default settings of 6000 and also 4,00,000 and was
getting the same error. I will go over the tutorial you mentioned and then
see what happens.

Hi,

You might want to look over the tutorial on OProfile at
http://people.redhat.com/wcohen/ to make sure that module is being 
loaded. A number of the distributions include a version of OProfile with 
their distribution. If there is a version of OProfile included in the 
distribution, use that. mixing Kernel and OProfile versions trips up 
many people.

Your count for global_power_events looks very high, 40,000,000. This is 
the number of unhalted processor cycles per sample. This would would be 
75 samples per second on a 3GHz processor that is running unhalted. The 
processor usually goes into halted mode when waiting for IO, and it is 
quite possible that you didn't get any samples at all.  Smaller counter 
valuer for more samples per second. You might try to use the default 
event setting before changing things.
