This got my 5600 back.   Just in time for my week off,  now ia can spend 
it screwing around with my new Linux environment.  Thanks for the 
support, guys.

(Sorry for being late, my mailhost, a Mac, got bitten by a powerflop, it 
took this long to get it wroking again.)
