You don't specify which version of QTDesktop you have. I haven't seen the 
problem with the old version I'm using (Version 1.5, zaurus_20020209a, Mar 27 
2002).  [I was unsuccessful getting a 1.6x version installed so I stuck with 
that.]  I also have to assume you are using OZ 3.2 stable with no fixes 
unless you say otherwise....

I can't tell whether the addressbook is blank on the Z or on the desktop or in 
both places.

You might try manually copying the  addressbook.xml file from 
~/.palmtopcenter/addressbook/ on the PC to 
/home/root/Applications/addressbook/ on the Z (or vice versa).  Make sure you 
back up any files you are replacing and that you don't have QTdesktop or 
Contacts applications running and that Contacts on the Z isn't fast-loaded.
