I used the backup application but it did not seem to restore all my apps and
icons after the Z battery was allowed to run down. It seemed to just restore
my gui preferences. I still had to reinstall all my apps.

I had everything that I could install to SD installed there (some apps
insist on being installed in RAM. I'm pretty sure my SD card was formatted
for EXT2.. gotta check that.)
