Argh, finally found out:

EXTRA_QMAKEVARS_POST += "TMAKE_LFLAGS+=-L${STAGING_LIBDIR}"

Thanks for the help. Hopefully I will soon provide a working .bb
recipe for freenote (currently in nonworking under OE tree)
