async auth + auth-gen-token has known bugs that are being worked on.

So, "as of now" (2.5.0), this is not a recommended combination.

That setup uses old code on the server (2.4.6).  There might be more
problems with --auth-gen-token combined with plugin auth (not only
async).

It *does* work if the server authenticates via management API, but this
is something not trivial to set up (because there's no ready made
components for it).
