Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,

Week 38 has been overcast by an identified issue in our update
mechanisms. The issue is not new at all, but recent package changes
made it surface and made would have made this bug visible on most users
systems. So we held back all new snapshots since this issue became
apparent. Luckily, I have to cover two weeks of snapshots today, so I
still have something to talk about – and since my last review, there
were 5 snapshots released (0907, 0908, 0909, 0911 and 0913). Once the
upgrade issues are resolved, Tumbleweed will resume publishing
snapshots. The first one to come will contain all the fixes and changes
accumulated over the last week.

What did the five released snapshots bring you:

  * Linux kernel 4.12.11, followed shortly after by 4.13.1
  * Qemu 2.10.0
  * PulseAudio 11.0
  * Mesa 17.2.0
  * KDE Applications 17.08.1
  * GNOME 3.26.0
  * GCC 7.2.1
  * Java 9 is used to build packages (default java implementation)

And that was all happening before we had to stop releasing new
snapshots. The current build (next snapshot, once approved) already
contains those bits and pieces:

  * Mesa 17.2.1
  * KDE Frameworks 5.38.0
  * Digikam 5.7.0
  * Linux Kernel 4.13.2
  * PulseAudio 11.1
  * Python 3.6.2
  * Ruby 2.5 – and all RubyGems built for 2.4 and 2.5 (default not
switched yet)
  * The standard compiler flags include -fstack-clash-protection

And those are the things that already passed all stagings and
integration tests.

The staging projects currently contain more updates that are in the
makings:

  * Java 9.0.0.0 final release
  * Linux Kernel 4.13.3
  * KDE Plasma 5.11 (planned release date October 10th)
  * Boost 1.65.1
  * Freetype 2.8.1 (some issues to work out)
  * The YaST Team's libstorage-ng implementation
  * Poppler 0.59 (some packages need fixes to make this happen)

If there are areas you want to help out, feel free to reach out to the
respective maintainers (osc maintainer $pkg) or speak up on the
openSUSE-factory mailing list.

Cheers,
Dominique
