Most still are using the legacy drivers and live on partitions >15. I just did a first zypper dup since November on one of these systems where / is actually on partition 10. The result of zypper dup left the legacy drivers in use, so I tried to "upgrade" myself by substituting ata_piix for piix in /etc/sysconfig/kernel's INITRD_MODULES line, but that leaves the kernel unable to access /dev/root. From the shell after root mount fails, I see via ls /dev that there are absolutely no disk devices, nor disk directory tree. How do I get a good initrd built for libata when the running kernel is on legacy ide? http://fm.no-ip.com/tmp/SUSE/Factory/lsinitrd26296a is lsinitrd on the working 2.6.29 kernel with legacy IDE. http://fm.no-ip.com/tmp/SUSE/Factory/lsinitrd26296b is from my first failed attempt to make the switch to libata. -- "A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control."
