I had to Google to see what all the fuss was about.

I have run two laptops with an SSD, actually four if you count my EeePC 
notebooks. And, my wife has one. I've only ever used whatever the OS has 
by default. Operating speed has been VERY fast. Much faster than with a 
mechanical hard drive.

Just my experience with SSD's.
