What I'm finding though is that it will work for a while and then the sound 
will disappear again. I'm having to do /etc/init.d/alsasound restart once or 
twice a day. Haven't been able to find out though what is causing it. 
/var/log/messages doesn't seem to have anything particularly interesting. I 
have un-installed pulseaudio though and that's helped a bit.
