Hello,

I'll try to explain completely, but first you'll find enclose the proof
that I can use an IDE interface.

If you want to understand what is your problem do the following :

1° - configure your IDE disk with vmware as a scsi disk and save the
configuration of the disk
for instance "scsi-trial.vmdk" and the vmware configuration file as for
instance as "scsi-trial.vmx"

2° - edit the file "scsi-trial.vmx" and replace : scsi0.present="TRUE"
by : scsi0.present="FALSE"
and remove any other line which contains "scsi"

3° from a user terminal start : /usr/bin/vmware and choose "edit virtual
machine settings" then
add a hard disk !
Since there is no scsi interface in the machine, you'll be proposed to
use an IDE interface ! do that
choose your disk and save the configuration of the disk as
"ide-trial.vmdk" and the vmware configuration
file as "ide-trial.vmx"

4° Edit the two files "scsi-trial.vmdk" and "ide-trial.vmdk" and compare
the contents, you'll see that the
disk hasn't the same geometry in the two cases, and that is the
explanation of your problems !!!

KEEP THE FILE "ide-trial.vmdk" and rename it as you want, you'll use it
in the future for your IDE disk.

5° now you can replace : scsi0.present="FALSE" by :
scsi0.present="TRUE", start again :
/usr/bin/vmware and "edit virtual machine settings", you'll find your
IDE disk and you'll be able to add
any other IDE or SCSI device as you could want.

Good luck.
Michel.

PS : I'd difficulties to find this turn-around which is not documented
AFAIK.

For further configurations with the same disk, you can add it manually
in the .vmx file and refer to the
.vmdk file which you've saved earlier.
