I believe that the shell which is selected is selected by Autoconf 
when libtool gets configured.  Different Autoconf versions may make 
different choices.  The choice is based on available features rather 
than observed runtime performance and it is likely that GNU bash is 
checked for before some other shell.  Autoconf version 2.62 was 
released today.
