so as it turns out:

- s10 and later doesn't clutter up the filesystem with unwanted devices

- the symbolic links in /dev/md had disappeared, but the actual devices in \
/devices/pseudo were still there

- manually creating the symbolic links under /dev/md was enough to get it working

- recreating the metadevices was enough to get lucreate working too

it's a bit odd that devfsadm didn't want to remake the links, though...
