Why don't we ship a prototype /etc/dev/devname_master and why don't we
use the plug-in interface ourselves?

I'd like to add a new /dev/subdir entry, and doing it by way of the
provided plug-in interface looks much cooler than just hacking another
entry into vtab[], but I noticed that none of the current
subdirectories are actually implemented via plug-ins, and that they're
just all hard-coded.

Is there a reason behind this?
