Hello,

I am trying out opensolaris mainly for ZFS. I want to build a huge storage server \
for my family's media from trips over the past many summers. Here is what I have:

Asus M3N78 Pro
AMD 5000+ 2.6GHZ
4GB RAM
1 x 250 gb seagate (boot)
4 x 1500 GB seagate (storage pool)
1 x generic DVD-CD

My Problem is this: Everything is installed (hardware-wise). The MB has 6 SATA \
ports. DVD is on #2, boot disk (250GB) is on #1. the 4 storage (zpool) disks are on \
3-6. Problem is that the MB only recognizes the last two drives when in either RAID \
or AHCI mode (other option is IDE). The MB sees and lists all 5 HDDs.

When in RAID mode:
I boot the opensolaris live dvd, select the first option, then i get a message that \
says it has to run in console maintenance mode (please enter password). This gets me \
nowhere, even if i type in opensolaris as the password,im just at a prompt that does \
nothing.

When in AHCI mode:
I can boot the disc, and install, but I get errors on 3 of the 4 other discs while \
booting up saying " ahci_port_reset: port (x) BSY/DRQ still set after device reset \
port_task_file = 0x180" the port (x) number is whichever port it is getting the \
error, and is different every time. The discs are all fine, I have run the seatools \
on them (long test) and they show up on the MB as discs for RAID mode and in the AHCI \
list. Also, when i boot into the OS, type 'format' in the terminal, only two discs \
show up as options, not the 6 that should.

Does anyone have any clue as to what i should do? Is there something i can type in \
to boot it up properly without these errors? Or do I need to just leave the MB in \
IDE mode, use the 4 ports, then buy a SATA PCI card to put the additional drives on? \
Again, This is my first attempt at solaris or unix for that matter, i've used ubuntu \
quite a bit and am familiar with linux, but was drawn to solaris for zfs. I would \
really like to use it over RAID.

thanks for any help in advance.
